Here at Blacklist Coffee Roasters, we run barista courses as well as one-on-one training. Recently we trained Hannah Betham, a team member from Jamaica Blue. Hannah made it to the grand finals of the annual Jamaica Blue Barista Championships by beating more than 120 competitors across Australia. Even though Jamaica Blue roast their own coffee, the team at Blacklist were happy to help Hannah train for this competition held in Sydney in June 2015.
Hannah had to make 4 espressos, 4 cappuccinos and 4 Latte art coffees in 15 minutes to a panel of 7 judges. Baristas were judged on customer service skills, taste of the coffee and their technical coffee making skills. Hannah was in good hands as she was trained by our resident competition veteran the 2014 Australian Latte Art Champion Rie Moustakas. We are happy to announce that Hannah won the competition, and is now the 2015 Jamaica Blue Barista Champion. Hannah received many prizes including an espresso machine and coffee grinder, Pullman tamper and a Go-Pro!
